PEPE PEPE PEPE

Mood: Muddy (No, seriously, I'm so covered in mud that it's turned into an emotion)
Music: Green Day - 21 Guns

Pros of this weekend: New friends, new music, awesome views, helping the community
Cons of this weekend: Barbed wire, bug bites, wet tents, mud, 5 AM wake up calls

This weekend, Alex, Alicia, the infamous Ross, and I went on a volunteer retreat in the mountains in Cartago. The electric company had a station there, but they abandoned it about 20 years ago. Anyway, UNA made a deal with them to let the university reconstruct it and use it as a biological research station for the next 50 years. That's where we come in - we went up there for the weekend as a reconstruction crew.

My crew was supposed to be on trail-clearing, but we only worked on the trails for the first morning (WITH MACHETES) because the people working on rebuilding the house needed some backup. So yup, I spent the weekend machete-ing and hammering things, eating, (barely) sleeping, and hanging out with some new tico friends. I think the best part of the weekend was when we walked out to see the reservoir. We were all worried about getting attacked by guard dogs, but instead the night guard let us in and told us all about it. Straight up awesome.

We just got home an hour or so ago, and more than anything, I want to curl up in my bed and sleep on a real, warm mattress for the night, haha.

Pura Vida,
Sarah
